Photo Booth Rentals Memphis
Photo booth rental competition is gaining speed in Memphis. There are lots of new companies with the same old formulas: Pack ‘em in, make a strip and get ‘em out. Some companies even offer to give extra strips, if you ask for them. It reminds me of the Pizza industry. How many more pizza joints can a market support? Well, the industry has a way of shaking out the losers and the winners.
I have always subscribed to “Quality Sells”.
We are a customer focused business. It is our job to give the customer a “quality” experience and a quality product along with a little “lagniappe”. A couple of years ago we were the top end of the market price wise. We were about 12% above the “photo booths in a box” and lost jobs because of that $50 - $75 basic difference. But that 12% made a big difference in our ability to stay in business. Thanks to our customers we have survived and thrived in our market. Now, most of the “photo booths in a box” have increased their pricing to survive. Pricing is no longer the major determining factor between us but what we offer to the customer is:
- We offer a 10’ wide Green Screen “Studio” Photo Booth – not a 36” wide bench against a fabric background.
- We have an on site photographer and computer/printer operator – not a box and 1 person to see that it is running.
- We have a complete photo booth backup on site. That means we show up with 2 complete photo booth setups (extra cameras, printers, cables, computers etc.) – Is there an extra photo booth box on site incase something breaks down? Probably not.
- We make a full sized print for each person in the shot. 15 people against our 10’ wide screen – we make 15 full sized prints on the spot. – The photo booth box will make one print or strip (some 2 strips) no matter how many people squeeze into the tiny space. Some photo booth boxes will make extra prints if you can find the attendant and ask for them.

]]>You spend $1000 on 5 color brochures that fly out of your booth and end up in a trash can on the convention floor or hotel waste basket. If you are lucky, 1-5% of those expensive brochures are kept. Let’s say 50 of those brochures are actually kept. That is $20 per piece & 5% penetration.
It is our experience that 90-95% of our photo booth pictures are not thrown away. They “live” for years in photo albums, cork boards, cubicle walls etc. with your logo shining right back at them. A constant reminder of your brand. Let’s say that 900 of your branded photos survive. That is an investment of $ 1.12 per piece and 90% penetration.
Of course, we can not guarantee this type of performance but anything north of 5% is a gain and not unreasonable.
Our state of the art Green Screen Technology makes your visual presentation totally customizable. You can provide your own digital backgrounds, overlay copy, logos etc to us and we will layer them into our software or you can choose from over 600 digital backgrounds that we offer to our clients at no charge and we will add your logos and copy.
If you have a set or canvas background we can photograph your guest and make their prints on the spot. It is not required that we use the Green Screen. We can adapt to any situation the client might have.
We offer the following print sizes that can be printed individually or as a “package” on site in a matter of seconds: 4x6, 5x7, 6x8, 8x10 and 8x12.
We use professional, dye sublimation printers that produce prints at amazing speeds:
3 ½ seconds for a 4x6 (using 2 printers – 7 seconds per printer) including lamination
12 ½ seconds for an 8x10 (using 2 printers – 25 seconds per printer) including lamination
Our 8x10/8x12 printers make it possible to print “packages” on a single sheet of 8x10 paper. For example, on a single 8x10 sheet we can print: 2-5x7s – 1-8x10 – 8-Wallets or 16-mini Wallets. Our 8x12 print size is great for putting your guest on magazine covers, movie posters etc. and perhaps on the cover of your own company magazine!

An “open air” photo booth is more like an on site “studio” that is only limited by the size of the background screen. We are an “open air” photo booth concept. Our Green Screens are 10’ wide and can, indeed, fit 1-15 into a single shot.
- Is the booth controlled by a computer or by a live person?
“Photo Booths in a box” and most “open air” booths are controlled by a touch screen computer.
Our photo booths are composed of a live photographer and a live computer/printer operator which gives us the ability to interact with our subjects and customize our approach to each setup.

Looking at the “package” rate the “photo booth in a box” might look less expensive but when you consider how many 4x6 or 5x7 prints you will get during the course of an evening, our Memphis Photo Booth wins hands down. ]]>You have decided to get a photo booth for your event and have started contacting companies. You spend a few minutes on the phone with each photo booth vendor. They find out what you need, and say what they can do for you. Quick question, did the type of printer they use come up in the conversation? That’s like buying a car and not asking about the engine. The Photo Booth’s main goal is to create “high quality” memories that will last for years, and if they use the wrong printer, then they might not withstand the test of time.
What They Don’t Want You To Know:
There are (2) main printer types used by photo booth rentals. One of them is called an inkjet printer that cost around $150, and the other is a dye-sublimation printer that cost between $150 - $2,300. The professional dye sublimation printers that we use are at the upper end of the scale at $1200 – $2,300 each and we have at least 2 on every job.
I am sure that you have heard of the inkjet printer. It is most commonly found in a family computer room. The reason it is widely used by families, is because it is cheep and does the job. However, inkjet printers will create the illusion of an image by placing very small dots of ink on the paper.
This does not compare to a professional dye-sublimation printer which lays down layers of color and finishes with a layer of lamination that protects the print from water and finger print damage. There are cheep dye sublimation printers that only cost around $150 - $200 but they are very, very slow. The big difference in dye sublimation printers is: The more expensive the printer the faster it is. The cheep printers take 120-180 seconds to print a 4x6. Our printers only take 3 ½ - 7 seconds!
Which Photo Lasts Longer?
When guests take photos in a photo booth, they will typically put the photos in their pocket until they get home. Our dye sublimation printers have an over-coated, laminated protected layer to prevent the photo from getting damaged. This enables your color photo to last for up to 100 years in normal conditions. The dye sublimation print is waterproof and finger print resistant. The output from an inkjet printer or cheep dye sub printer does not even come close to these standards… even with special inks. Some photo booths try to justify their photo quality with a protective plastic sleeve. This is just a short term patch for a long term problem!
Printing Speed:
Time is of the essence, guests get anxious if they wait in line for too long. Our professional dye sublimation printers can produce a photo in less than 7 seconds. Some inkjet printers take up to 2-3 minutes!
The Verdict:
Any company that you consider should tell whether they use inkjet or dye sublimation printers and, if it is dye sublimation, the speed of the printer. As you can tell from the information above, our professional, lab quality dye sublimation printers win hands down and are almost 10 times more expensive and 20-30 times faster. This is the main reason why our Green Screen Photo Booths use professional dye sublimation printers. We want to make sure that your photos will print quickly and last many, many years.

If it is not clear where the Photo Booth company is physically located on their web site, I would suggest taking any prices listed with a huge grain of salt.
We recently had a client that had an event 350 miles from Memphis that would require our 2 staff members (photographer & computer/printer operator), 14 hours of round trip travel, over night rooms for 2, food and auto expenses. We quoted the job with all this in consideration. The client thought it was too expensive and decided to book a “local” photo booth in a box. They called back a few days later and wanted to book us for the job. They found they could book us and pay for all the travel expenses cheaper than having a photo booth in a box shipped from out of state. They also did not have to deal with setting it up, operating it, tearing it down and shipping it back. By hiring us, they also had no liability for damage to the photo booth in a box equipment.

1.We are Green Screen Photo Booth Specialists: Photo Booth & Event Photography is our sole focus. We are not wedding or portrait photographers with little knowledge or expertise in the technology of green screen photography trying to offer another billable service and hoping they can pull it off. We have been in the commercial photography business for over 25 years.
2.Backup: We backup everything! We have 2 cameras, 2 lens, 3 studio lights, 2 computers, 2 printers, 3 extras of every cable and more. We actually have 2 complete equipment setups on every shoot. It doubles our investment in your job but you will never hear “the printer went down so we are closing down the photo booth”. Ask your vendors to detail their equipment backup plan.
3.Technology: Our software is not the cheap green screen software designed for amateur use but used by many photo booth vendors. Our software is professional software engineered for commercial event photographers.
4.Green Knockout: What if someone has on a green shirt or blouse? With the amateur software, the shirt or blouse becomes transparent, and the background replaces the clothing or, at best, becomes a dingy gray. Our professional software recognizes the difference in the greens and allows the clothing to remain in the photograph. If the clothing is exactly the same green as the background, our software allows us to “mask” the clothing and bring it back. The amateur software does not have this capability.
5.Lighting: Lighting is everything in photography and especially in green screen photography. This is where experience and expertise come into play. You can’t get away with small camera flashes that throw an intense, hard light at your subjects creating dark shadows on your background that become big, black spots in your pictures. We use professional, studio lighting that gives a soft illumination to the subjects and casts very little shadow. This soft lighting also makes our subjects look great by softening their flesh tones.
6.Background material: We use a special green screen background material made especially for green screen photography. It is a soft, pliable material that minimizes shadows and has very low reflectability. The backgrounds often used are shiny, poly fabrics that are highly reflective (casting green light back onto your subjects), wrinkle easily and create many problems for the vendors that use them resulting in poor quality photos.
7.Our Equipment: We use Nikon professional cameras and lens for their reliability and quality of image. Our printers are lab quality, professional dye sublimation printers that can print a 4×6 image (with lamination) in 7 seconds. Low-end vendors use less expensive dye sub printers that are much slower and increase the guest waiting time. It also means that they print fewer pictures in an hour, thus increasing your cost per print. We use high end Sony and DNP printers and have at least 2 on every job. They are the fastest, highest quality printers available. They give us the capability to print 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 or even 8×12 photographs on site, in a matter of seconds.
8.Client Protection: We are licensed and insured. We can provide a certificate of insurance that outlines our liability and other coverages. “Can you provide us with a certificate of insurance?” is a question I rarely hear from a prospective client. It is one of the most important questions you need answered. A real business will have insurance that covers their business as well as their workers. What happens if a photographer’s light stand falls on one of your guests? Who is liable? Sad to say, but it is usually the one with the deepest pockets or the best coverage. Our coverage is very good and provided by our agency in New York that specializes in photographic insurance. We have been with this agency for over 20 years.
